Talyllyn Railway, Tywyn

talyllyn-railwayLocated approximately an hour's drive south of Harlech.

The Talyllyn Railway is a historic narrow-gauge steam railway, set in the beautiful Mid-Wales countryside and home to a fantastic narrow gauge railway museum. Running from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol, the line passes the delightful Dolgoch Falls and there are excellent forest walks at Nant Gwernol.

The railway has six steam and four diesel locomotives, plus a number of other self-propelled permanent way vehicles. All passenger trains are normally steam-hauled, with the diesels used for works trains only

There are many delightful walks and cascading waterfalls around the railway.

Dolgoch Falls, three sets of magnificent waterfalls in a beautiful wooded ravine, are served by Dolgoch station and many passengers alight here before rejoining the train later in the day (train service permitting). The Dolgoch estate was presented to the people of Tywyn and access is free (with donation boxes). There are various walks around the falls including a circular tour taking in all three levels of the falls.

Visit the Talyllyn Railway website for more information about the journey and trains.
